Swabs are guaranteed sterile-packed, so when they are unpacked there is no ‘contaminating’ material on them. This means they are 100% reliable for any kind of research involving the removal of human material. The pads of cotton-wool are attached to a polystyrene or wooden stem and made of cotton or viscose. If wished, they can be provided with a medium (carbon) for allowing bacteria and such to grow or else to inhibit bacterial growth. Swabs are available in a peel-pack or unbreakable tube.
